  • Re-read the lesson summaries (pgs. 9,17,25,33)
  • Study all vocabulary from chapter 1 (the bold words in each lesson)
  • Study California's FOUR major regions. Be able to describe the climate, landforms, major cities, and resources fore EACH region. 
  • Study California's resources. Know the difference between renewable and non-renewable resources. Be able to give examples of each. 
  • Practice map skills (pgs.12 & 13) and longitude and latitude (pgs. 28 &29)
  • Be able to determine the difference between a city, a state, a country, and a continent

1. Study all the vocabulary from the chapter  (the bold words in each lesson)

2. Re-read each lesson summary (pages 43; 51; 61; 67)

3. Be familiar with what scientists thought about California's first people (lesson 1)

4. Know what the different tribes from California's different regions ate, what their homes were made out of, and how they lived. 

5. Review your research notes, presentation notes (about the other tribes), and in-class textbook review.

  • Study important people from the chapter. Know their names and what their roles were.  ****

  • Understand what the Missions were and WHY  they were built. **

  • Be able to explain WHY European Explorers wanted to find a water route to Asia and why they eventually started a colony in Alta California.

  • Understand the roles of Native Americans at the missions

2. Re-read each lesson summary (pages 123;129;135;143)

3. Understand the shift from Spanish California to Mexican California.

4. Know how California changed under Mexican rule.

5.  Study what life was like at forts in California.
