Permission Slips: the students brought home permission slips on Monday allowing them to be filmed for an assignment I am working on through SDSU. Thank you to everyone who has already signed them and turned them in. The film is simply for an evaluation of my teaching and no names will be associated with the students.
Science Unit 1: Our first unit in science is all about the nature of science and the scientific method. I use a supplemental text for this unit. The students will receive a photo copy of each of the four lesson readings in the unit. This is what they will use to study in addition to their science notebooks. I will collect all of the readings after the first unit test.
California Keynote Presentations - if you didn't get a chance to check our your child's most recent social studies project, ask them about it! They did an awesome job!
Track Tuesday Update: Our class has collectively run over 36 miles in the past week! I'm so happy to see my students so excited and enthusiastic about this healthy program. :) They are keeping me motivated! Our class is running together on Tuesdays afternoons in addition to their morning, recess and lunch time runs.
October is National Bully Prevention Month! The 4th grade will be doing lots of bully prevention and community building activities over the next month to stomp out bullying from our school. We are currently reading Wonder by R.J Palacio which is a great novel that ties into the theme of acceptance and friendship.
Feast of Saint Francis & Blessing of the Animals
Our annual Blessing of the Animals is Wednesday, October 4thon the Feast of St. Francis. Families are invited to bring their kid-friendly, well-behaved pets at 2:30 to the blacktop for a special blessing. While this is a lovely tradition, we ask that all dogs are leashed and that other pets are contained to limit the chaos. Please be respectful when Fr. Gerard leads us in prayer and is blessing the animals. Students will gather with their class around the basketball court.
Prayer of Saint Francis Quiz Wednesday! One of the prayers that we are required to learn in 4th grade is the Prayer of Saint Francis. We are studying the prayer all week long and the students will be quizzed on the prayer Wednesday. They will need to be able to write it.
4th Grade Mass is Friday, October 6th. All families are welcomed and encouraged to join us for this special event. Please make sure your child is in the hall ready for church before 7:45.
Star of the Week Presentations started this week! Each student will get a chance to be the star of the week at some point during the school year. The calendar is posted on my website. Students will create a presentation about themselves using the app Keynote. On Friday they will get to share their presentation with the class and they can bring in one special item to share. The guidelines are also posted on my website.
Book Report Novels need to be read by the time students come back from the long weekend (10/10). We will be writing this first book report together IN CLASS. The students should bring their book to class all week next week so they can use it to help write their reports. The rest of the book reports this year will be done as at-home projects. Due dates are on my website.
Please check Class Dojo regularly for updates on student behavior, announcements, photos, videos and examples of awesome student work!
