Mark Your Calendars: Our field trip to Mission San Diego de Alcala is scheduled for Tuesday, 2/28. I've added this to the volunteer sign up above.
This year tickets sales will be a little bit different than in years past. Before the carnival, students have the opportunity to buy an all inclusive wristband for $15 that offers unlimited games and booths in addition to one lemonade and one popcorn. Water is free and unlimited but students need to bring in their own reusable water bottle! If students choose not to purchase the wristband then they can buy tickets on the day of the carnival. Avoid the line and buy the wristband before and after school everyday starting 10/11.
I know it seems early but many students start planning their costumes in August! While preparing for Halloween this year, please keep our school dress code in mind. Students may not wear anything that is too short, tight, shows midriff, contains violence or weapons of any kind. The costume should be school appropriate. Keep in mind that we are visiting the nursing home that day to Trick-or-Treat with the elderly residents, so students should not wear anything too scary.
Information went home yesterday but the Annual SJA Pumpkin Contest. This is a fun, optional family project. I encourage all 4th grade families to participate as this is one of our assigned booths for the carnival. Please see flier that went home.
Halloween Carnival Volunteers Needed -if you are available and have not already signed up, please do so using the volunteer sign up link above!
Science Extra Credit Opportunity
We have been reading Fairy Tales the past few weeks during reading, so this week we did a "Jack and the Bean Stalk" themed STEM Lab. The students have an opportunity to earn extra credit by developing a different/better prototype at home. Please see information sheet that went home today. Students must meet all of the requirements outlined on the directions page in order to receive extra credit.
California Geography Keynote Project Deadline Extended to Tuesday 10/18
Every year in 4th grade I read Tuck Everlasting, by Natalie Babbit, to the class and we watch the film. We are just finishing up the novel this week and next week (as a surprise) the class will get to watch the movie in class. We will do several language arts activities around comparing the two different types of media and analyzing the similarities and differences. The film is rated PG and there is one scene where the characters kiss. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Enter the yearbook cover contest by designing a cover which includes: our school theme of peace & "St James Academy 2016-17" Be creative!! Covers DUE Tuesday November 1st to Coach Bohman.
Spirit Wear Around Town
Please consider wearing your SJA spirit wear around town: at the pumpkin patches, movies, parks, sporting events, restaurants, etc. If you send a picture of yourself out and about in your spirit wear, you will receive 10 Halloween Carnival Win Tickets to use at the prize booth!
Towel Collection Update
Thanks for your donations of towels for Fr. Joe’s Village. While we fell short of our goal of covering the field in towels (quite the lofty goal:), we are excited to donate about 300 towels to Fr. Joe!
Wear Pink Accessories in October
To support Breast Cancer Awareness and cancer research, students are permitted to add pink accessories (including socks) to their uniforms Mondays-Thursdays if they make a $1.00 donation per week for the month of October. Please refrain from pink accessories on Friday mass days.
