Math I just wanted to let you know that based on data from the pre-assessment that I gave last week, I plan to zip through chapter 3 in math. I will be combining lessons and skipping a few. The students seem to have a strong understanding of basic addition and subtraction, so I want to utilize our time on building skills that will most benefit and challenge the class. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Halloween Carnival Sign Up
WE NEED PARENT VOLUNTEERS!! The 4th grade is in charge of 2 fun booths at the carnival this year: face painting and pumpkin voting. Please use the link below to sign up to volunteer. We can't do it without you! Thank you!
Science Unit 1: Our first unit in science is all about the nature of science and the scientific method. I use a supplemental text for this unit. The students will receive a photo copy of each of the four lesson readings in the unit. This is what they will use to study in addition to their science notebooks. I will collect all of the readings after the first unit test.
October is National Bully Prevention Month! The 4th grade will be doing lots of bully prevention and community building activities over the next month to stomp out bullying from our school. We are currently reading Wonder by R.J Palacio which is a great novel that ties into the theme of acceptance and friendship.
Class Meetings: Every Monday morning we have a class meeting to kick off the week. We discuss special student news, upcoming events and assignments, set goals for the week and choose class jobs. This is also a great time to discuss and problem solve through any issues going on in the classroom or out on the playground. I encourage students to please come to me with meeting topics that they think we should discuss as a class. Students can also e-mail me or write an anonymous note. Please encourage your child to utilize this great time and come to me if they are having any concerns in the classroom or on the playground. It is a wonderful time during the week where we build our classroom community, celebrate each others' successes and grow and learn together.
Information went home today but the Annual SJA Pumpkin Contest. This is a fun, optional family project. I encourage all 4th grade families to participate as this is one of our assigned booths for the carnival. Please see flier that went home.
Mark Your Calendars: Our field trip to Mission San Diego de Alcala is scheduled for Tuesday, January 16th. I've added this to the volunteer sign up.
Please check Class Dojo regularly for updates on student behavior, announcements, photos, videos and examples of awesome student work!
