We had an awesome time on our field trip to Mission San Diego de Alcala yesterday! We lucked out with beautiful weather! The students made me very proud- they were very well behaved and really knew their California history! It was fun to have the old SJA Principal, Mrs. Kruzona, as our docent. :)

The 2nd Trimester is ending next Friday! No graded work will be accepted after Wednesday 3/8. If you need to talk to me about grades, please have your child make an appointment. Report cards will go home the following Friday.

Mission Reports due Next Friday
The students are wrapping up paragraph 5 in class this week. They will have one more week of class time to work on their maps, Indian diary entries, cover, dividers, and table of contents. I recommend that they set up a timeline or goal of what to have completed each day so that they do not save a bunch of work right before the deadline.

Mission Models due Tomorrow (optional) The ones that have been turned in already look amazing!

Math extra credit
T
he students filled out a survey in class this morning. They have the opportunity to earn some extra credit by taking the data from the survey and creating a graph.  A handout was pased out during math today. Extra credit due Monday

Overnight Field Trip - The 4th grade class will be headed to the Lazy W Ranch on April 26th& 27th for two full days of hands-on learning and fun! There will be a mandatory parent meeting on Thursday, March 23rd at 5:30 PM. This is the last chance to express interest in chaperoning for the trip. We can only bring 2 moms and 4 dads so I will be drawing names next week.

During religion this week the students worked on activities from our bully prevention program.  They learned what bullying is, how to recognize the many forms of it, and what to do in a bullying situation. We will continue the lesson next week with an emphasis on the impact of our words and actions.  The students will also be learning the difference between being a by stander (sitting and watching a bad situation without doing anything about it) and being an upstander (someone who stands up for what is right).

Thank you everyone who helped make a class party a success last week. Our buffet turned into a FEAST! The students had so much fun :)

Buffet Party!

March Madness Tournament- The class will be participating in a March Madness tournament starting next week. This ties in with our next writing project: persuasive writing. The students will choose their all time favorite book and compete to convince the class that their book should be the winner.  The students will use various language arts activities to convince their classmates that their novel is truly the best. More information to come home soon. Please talk to your child this weekend about their all time favorite book and why. :)

Dojo Dollars Update - Because it is the beginning of the month, the students had to pay "rent" and "bills" today using their Dojo dollars. Some students had spent all of their Dojo dollars at store last week and went into debt! This program continues to be a great learning experience everyday. The students are quickly learning that the more hardworking, organized, helpful and kind they are, the more "money" they can make.  Some students are savers, others are spenders. Some want the difficult, high paying class jobs... others want the easy ones. It is a pretty fun classroom economy that we have going on in 4th grade!

That’s the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Rice Bowl effect. You will find your own rice bowl and Lenten calendar in this week’s envelope. Use these tools to help shape your own family’s Lenten journey. Visit www.crsricebowl.org for more information.
