The students did SUCH a nice job on their mission reports. They should feel very proud of all their hard work! They will be displayed proudly in our classroom.
I'm looking forward to seeing all of you at the MANDATORY Overnight Field Trip Meeting next Thursday March 23rd at 5:30 in the 4th grade classroom. (Sorry for the typo last week, it is the 23rd not 24th) The chaperones are: Mr. Prosch, Mr. Kimberlain, Mr. Lang, Mr. Eakin, Mrs. McGuiness & Mrs. Tinya. Thank you everyone who volunteered!
Book Reports - The next book report is a very fun project! The students will be creating board games based on their novel. They will have the opportunity to play each other's games and learn about their classmates novels once they're turned in. This project is due on March 31st. Directions were handed out and we went over the project in class. There is also information on my website. I recommend that the students finish their novels by March 20th so that they have plenty of time to work on their projects. An optional plan sheet is going home this week to help them organized their ideas for their game. This is an at-home project.
Writing- The students have made SO much growth in their writing this year. I am so proud of all their hard work in their weekly journals and on their published pieces. For this last trimester they will be required to write TWO paragraphs each week in their journals (on one topic). They should review the requirements for a well-written "4th grade paragraph" glued in the front of their journals. Grammar and conventions continue to be the biggest hurdle for some. Please remind your child to review their work before turning it in.
Spanish Update - I was VERY pleased that almost every student had their Spanish books with them and their homework done last Friday. Maestra Snyder was so happy! :) Thank you for helping your kiddos!
Class Meetings- This week during our bully prevention lesson we learned about bystanders and upstanders and the impact that these students can have on a tough situation. We will go into further detail on this topic next week. I have already seen many of my students making the change and standing up for what they know is right! :)
March Madness Tournament: Students will be presenting their persuasive essays this Friday to their classmates. They will be scored by their classmates and myself using a rubric that was provided in their March Madness packets. The students should PRACTICE at home on Thursday night so that they are ready to deliver their speech on Friday. The top scoring students will advance to the Elite Eight next week! Please check in with your child each week and make sure they are ready for each round of the tournament. Students and staff members around the school have been filling out their brackets for our tournament... it's already been so fun! :) The students are working so hard!
Uniforms: I will be doing random uniform checks each week from here on out. Many of the boys are not tucking in their shirts or wearing belts to school. On mass days students should be wearing their sweaters, not spirit wear sweatshirts. Students should also not have any jewelry or nail polish on with the exception of watches. Students should also not be coloring on their skin. If a student is not following uniform dress code they will receive an Oops Slip. Two students today got Oops Slips for not having belts.
Honor Roll and Peacemaker Awards will be distributed after mass on 3/17. In the classroom we will be celebrating special 4th grade trimester awards.
