Working on Our Adaptations Research Project
Lots of group work this week! We interviewed each other about Christmas Break, built towers during our STEM lab, buddy read our novel study book Island of the Blue Dolphins and brought our math practice outside for some fresh air. :)
Welcome back 4th grade families! I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday season with family and friends. I got to go visit my family in Portland for a week and also got to go skiing with some of my husband's family in Colorado. It was a very busy and fun break!
Important Dates
1/6 Noon Dismissal
1/9-1/20 Star Renaissance Testing Window
1/16 No School MLK Jr. Day
1/20 Field Trip to the Nursing Home - Drivers Needed!
1/25 Spell-A-Thon
1/29 SJA Open House
Science Test - the students will have a science test next Friday 1/13 on animal classifications and adaptations. A study guide is going home tomorrow to guide students in their preparation for this test. The study guide outlines which pages of the textbook to review. Students may also use their science notebooks on the test.
Book Reports - the class checked out biographies yesterday for the next book report due on 1/31. Most of the biographies are very quick reads so I am encouraging the students who finish early to go back and re-read or even check out another biography to read. We went over the directions for the report in class today. Students should be taking notes in their graphic organizer as they are reading. They must cite evidence from the text using page numbers. This book report is an at home project.
Mrs. Phillips' Birthday is this Monday. Mrs. Phillips is our classroom aide and does a ton for 4th grade! I would like each student to make a card for her over the weekend and bring it in on Monday. Thank you! :)
Spell-A-Thon is coming up on January 25th. Please support your students in getting pledges for this important fundraiser! In 4th grade the Spell-A-Thon will be a graded spelling test because all of the words on the list are review words from this year.
Outerwear - I have a HUGE growing pile of sweatshirts that have been left around the classroom for the past several weeks. They have been sitting folded on the back counter and I've asked students to please claim them. If your child is missing a sweatshirt or fleece please encourage them to come get them from the classroom before I send them up to the lost & found.
