Animal Adaptations & Classifications iPad Project
The 4th grade is wrapping up our latest iPad project on animal adaptations and classifications. The students practiced "App Smashing" by using three different apps to complete this project. They turned out really awesome! If you haven't had a chance to see it, ask your child about it. :)
Novel Replacements- I loaned each student a copy of Island of the Blue Dolphins for our novel study. Many students did not take care of their novel (cover bent, pages ripped, etc.) and will need to replace it. You can find the novel on Amazon or any book store. A note will go home in their Wednesday graded work folder next week if they need to replace their novel. Thank you!
Star Belly Sneetches- Next Wednesday the students will be participating in an activity to help them understand segregation on a more personal level. I use Dr. Seuss' book The Sneetches to organize the activity and foster a deep discussion on segregation and Civil Rights. Some students will be "Star Bellies" for the day while others will be "Plain Bellies". They cannot sit together, use the same facilities or play together at recess. Halfway through the day we switch so every has the experience of being a Star Belly and Plain Belly. (Star Belly Sneetches get special privledges all day). I have been so impressed with the empathy and compassion that this activity inspires in the classroom. The students do not know about the activity so please wait until after Wednesday to talk to them about it. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Nursing Home Visit Next Friday from 1:15-2:20
Drivers still needed. Use the sign up above if you're available to drive please :)
Star Renassiance Testing - We will be Star Testing this Thursday and Next. Please make sure that your child is fed and well-rested on these important testing days. If your child is absent on either of these days they will have an opportunity to make them up later on in the week.
Book Reports due 1/31
Students should be taking notes on their graphic organizer as they are reading their novels. If they are finished with the book they should go back and re-read while taking notes and recording the page number. The students need the app 3D Morfo for this project. It has been pushed to their iPads. They must know their apple ID password to be able to accept the app. If they don't have it yet they need to talk to Mr. Powell or Mrs. WIcox.
Spell-A-Thon is coming up on January 25th. Please support your students in getting pledges for this important fundraiser! In 4th grade the Spell-A-Thon will be a graded spelling test because all of the words on the list are review words from this year.
