Class Party
I know that we just celebrated Valentines Day but it just worked out timing wise that the class has earned another party! The students voted on the type of class party that they wanted to earn and they chose a buffet. I've never had a class come up with this idea before, but they were very excited about it! They've been working hard for over 3 months and have now earned it! We need every family to help make this party happen. Please sign up to bring something in (if it's food, please specify what you're bringing). Food can be brought in before school or at 11:15  if it needs to be served hot or cold. Families, feel free to team up... for example if someone wants to bring a dip, another family can bring the chips. Please keep in mind that we have nut allergies in the class. The sign up is below:

Progress Reports- the end of the 2nd trimester is quickly approaching! It is very important that you and your child are checking gradelink together every week and going over their graded work that is sent home.  On Monday students will be looking at their progress reports and filling out a reflection. These need to be signed by a parent and turned in by Friday.

Field Trip to Mission San Diego de Alcala
is coming up on Tuesday 2/28. We will leave school by 8:15 so please make sure that your child is on time that day! We will be back before lunch so they can have their regular packed lunch or Kis.

Extra Credit Science Opportunity will be going home next week and is due Thursday, March 2nd.

Medicine - if your child is bringing medicine to school they need to give it to an adult to administer. Even if it is cough drops.

Class Meetings - The 4th grade holds class meetings every Monday morning. The students have the chance to share special student news with their peers and we discuss the weekly schedule, announcements, and upcoming homework/projects. We choose class jobs and set goals for the week.  We also use this time to discuss anything going on in the classroom or on the playground.  This week during our class meeting the 5th graders came to present and discuss rules on the wall ball court because there had been some issues out at recess.  I have a suggestion box in the classroom where students can anonymously write down anything they'd like to be discussed at the class meeting. Please encourage your children to use this helpful tool!

The Mission Reports are more than half way done! It is very important that the students stay caught up with the weekly schedule.  They also MUST have their blue report folder and guide with them EVERYDAY at school. Many students have been able to finish their weekly notes and paragraphs in class and start working on their maps, artwork and Indian diary entries. At this point everyone should be done with paragraph 3 and have started their map. If not, then they need to do additional work outside of school.

Interested in going on the Overnight Field Trip with 4th grade on April 26th? I need two moms and 4 dads ... and preferably moms of girls and dads of boys. (Sorry moms!) Please e-mail me if you are interested. This does not guarantee you a spot, but does help me begin the planning process.

Love Thy Neighbor- The 4th grade did a special activity during our party on Valentine's Day. Each student received a heart and a name of one of their classmates. On their heart they had to write a sincere affirmation to that person.  We then shuffled them up and read them all aloud (anonymously). It was so sweet to hear the kind and thoughtful words that each of the students shared about their peers. Everyone agreed that it felt really good to hear the genuinely personal compliments about themselves and to share that love with their classmates. The hearts are posted in the hall if you are on campus and want to take a look. (Bring a tissue!)
Gala Committee and Volunteer Meetings- every Wednesday 8:00 a.m.
Please join us in the SJA Library on Wednesday mornings at 8:00 a.m. Don’t worry if you’re late. This is a great way to share your time and talents while making new SJA connections!

Gala Gift Giving Week
We are in need of auction items! We will be offering a drive thru/drop off opportunity the week of February 21st thru February 24th along with the following donation item themes:

  • Tuesday - Donate a Bottle of Wine. BevMo! is offering their 5-cent Wine Sale. Now would be a great time to go in and buy one bottle, get the second at 5 cents, and donate the 5-cent wine back to the Gala
  • Wednesday - Gift Cards and Gift Certificates to your favorite restaurant or business
  • Thursday - Travel. Have any unused travel miles, rental house, hotel points, etc. you would be willing to donate to SJA for the Gala? We can't do this without you and we are looking for some big ticket items
  • Friday - Event Donations. Do you have access to tickets to a sporting event or upcoming concert that you could donate? Padres? SDSU? Concert?

We need everyone's help! As you are out and about in the community, please consider asking your favorite business for a donation of service or gift cards. We will, of course, accept any donation on any day. Need a donation form? Please click on the link below.
Student Council will be assisting so give them a wave and they can come to your car and pick up the donation. Thank you!
