Grandparents' Day Mass
This Friday, February 3rd we are having a special mass to celebrate our grandparents. Please RSVP here.
A small reception will be held for students and their grandparents following mass on the Patio of the Bells, weather permitting.

Mission Reports!
We are starting our biggest report of the year in social studies this week. The students were very excited to pick their missions today in class. An information packet went home with your child today. Please read through it carefully, sign it, and send it back in. It is also a good idea to read through the student packet and look through their research folder so that you have an understanding of what is required of them both in school and at home.  The students must have their blue research folder with them at school everyday! Due dates for each section of the report are included in the student guide.

Care Package for the Troops!
As part of our Catholic Schools Week celebration the students are participating in a service project where we are putting together a care package to send to troops that are deployed in Iraq. Specifically, Thomas's uncle Charlie :) I've asked each student to bring in one item for the care package. Just something small, perhaps their favorite (non-perishable) snack or a small game, stuffed animal, etc.  I made a deck of cards that I will put in the package. I am asking each student to bring their item in by Friday but if you need through the weekend I can send it early next week. Instead of Wednesday writing this week, the students have been asked to write a letter or make a card.  INSTRUCTIONS for the card/letter went home today!

QUIZLET - Students may join my class on Quizlet to access study sets (flashcards  & games) that I've created that relate to what we are learning in school.  This math chapter requires a LOT of memorization (both customary & metric systems) so I recommend that students study a little bit each night. They will be quizzed periodically throughout the chapter.

Book Report - Students should have checked out a mystery or fantasy novel today in library for their next book report. The novel should be one that they HAVE NOT READ BEFORE and is at their appropriate independent reading level.  I recommend that students take notes on the characters, setting, major events, problem and solution while reading the novel so that they have an easier time when putting their book reports together.

Valentines Day

It is an SJA tradition that on Valentines Day each year we have a baby shower where the students bring in baby gifts to be donated for mothers in crisis. Our class's donations go to the Life Choices Organization.  It is a very fun addition to our Valentines Day celebrations. The students may dress up in festive "party clothes" (dresses/skirts and blouses, slacks and collared shirts for the boys... it is fun if they dress Valentine themed :-)
Students bring in a wrapped gift (typically the greatest need is for formula and diapers). We then unwrap all of the gifts and play baby shower games. It is very fun!
Students may also bring in Valentines for their classmates on that day. A class list with instructions went home in their Wednesday file last week.  Please keep our school's wellness policy in mind. There should be no candy attached to the Valentines. Students will get at treat at the class party.
Students should bring in brown paper grocery bags by Thursday 2/9 to make mailboxes out of.

Spell -A-Thon
Results went home on Monday. Please help your child collect all pledges and get them turned in!
