Overnight Field Trip Information
The 4th grade is SO excited to be heading to our overnight field trip this Wednesday and Thursday! We went over the schedule, rules, and packing list in class today and the students had the opportunity to ask LOTS of questions. :) I think we are ready!

A few reminders for the trip:
Please be ON TIME to school on Wednesday, we have things to cover before we hit the road! (Luggage can be brought to the classroom)

Students should be able to carry their own stuff. Please help them pack and stick to the packing list, they don't need much!

Students MUST BRING  A SACK LUNCH TO EAT ON WEDNESDAY.

Students MUST BRING A WATER BOTTLE.

If you are sending in medication please make sure that it is CLEARLY LABELED and given DIRECTLY TO ME (MRS. CLEMENS)  with clear instructions.

If your child is prone to getting car sick, home sick, nightmares, sleep walking, etc. PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP so that I can do my best job at taking care of your child.

Please be ready to pick up your child between 2:00 - 2:45 on Thursday. I will send an e-mail as soon as we are in cell phone range with our ETA at Saint James.

Thank you in advance to our awesome parent chaperones for taking the time off work and helping to make this trip possible: Scott Lang, Chris Eakin, Hans Prosch, Mike Kimberlain, Mary McGuinness & Tinya Fleming!

Gala- Thank you to everyone who attended or supported this event in any way! Our class sold 100% of our raffle tickets (and MORE), so the students will receive an ice cream party. Great job 4th grade!!

Thank you everyone for getting the overnight field trip forms turned in on time!! It is coming up very quickly - the Wednesday & Thursday that we get back from break.

Poetry Cafe-  The 4th grade has been studying and writing poetry for the past 3 weeks. Please join us for a celebration of their writing tomorrow at 1:45 in the 4th grade classroom. Thank you Pam & Elayne for providing refreshments!

Lenten Rice Bowls - Please have your child bring in their rice bowls by Thursday so that we can have them ready to donate. Thank you!

Book Clubs- Students have some reading to do for with book clubs over spring break. Please check in that your child has their novel. Also, the students are allowed to bring in snacks to share with their book club group during their meetings (kind of like how adults enjoy yummy snacks during book clubs). The groups each have 4 members and will typically meet twice a week. DO NOT FEEL OBLIGATED TO PROVIDE SNACKS. This is totally optional and meant to be fun. Thanks!

Family Life is a part of the religion curriculum in 4th grade. A copy of the curriculum, the parent connection packet and a permission slip went home last week. Please take some time to look over the curriculum to make sure that you are comfortable with everything being taught. All of these items (including the parent packet) need to be returned after Easter break on April 28th.

Holy Thursday Retreat - it is a tradition at Saint James to spend the Thursday before Easter Break preparing for Easter with a religious retreat. All day the students will participate in faith-based activities and prayer. We end the day with praying the Stations of the Cross down at the church with the 8th grade leaders.  Families are invited to join us for our "Washing of the Feet Ceremony" in the church at 9:30 and/or the Stations of the Cross prayer service at 11:15 in the church.
Thank you Patty, Jen & Katharine for providing snack!

Chapter 9 Math test will take place on Tuesday after break. Students may want to review simplifying fractions using IXL if they have free time over the break.

March Madness Update:  Congratulations Ben on winning the March Madness Book Tournament with Billy B. Fries an Ant! Sebastian was a tough competitor with Captain Underpants. All of the students did a great job and were awesome sports throughout the tournament!

Rock the School Concert-  Come support our classmates in this fun and exciting show! If your child comes to this school sponsored event tonight, they can skip their writing journal homework!

Gala- Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to sponsoring my husband and I to attend the gala and for the raffle tickets! I am very excited for this fun event and hope to see you all there! Great job on the raffle ticket sales everyone!!!

Kindness Week was awesome! It was truly touching to see the students so focused on kind words and deeds all week long. I loved watching them put others' needs before their own. We played a compliment game on Monday and the students begged to play it everyday! Kindness and positivity are truly contagious - I hope this good energy stays with us and carries us through the end of the school year.  If you didn't get a chance, ask your child about the bucket filling activity that we did and see if they will share their kind notes with you :)

Poetry Cafe-  We started writing poetry during Kindness Week and are continuing our study of poetry this week and next. The students are blowing me away with their thoughtful and creative poems. Please join us for a celebration of their writing next Wednesday at 1:45 in the 4th grade classroom. If anyone wants to volunteer to bring in cookies and refreshments, that would be very appreciated! (Use the sign up above)

Book Clubs - The students will be doing "book clubs" for the next 6 weeks. Each student is assigned a group and a novel which they will read together and practice and review many of the comprehension skills and strategies that we've learned this year. Students will be required to do some of the reading and activities in school and some at home. (The more they cooperate and work hard in class, the less they have to do at home). They will also have some assigned reading to do over Spring Break. This ensures that we will finish the books on time. Ask your child which novel they will be reading!

Family Life is a part of the religion curriculum in 4th grade. A copy of the curriculum, the parent connection packet and a permission slip will be going home today. Please take some time to look over the curriculum to make sure that you are comfortable with everything being taught.
