Gala- Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to sponsoring my husband and I to attend the gala and for the raffle tickets! I am very excited for this fun event and hope to see you all there! Great job on the raffle ticket sales everyone!!!
Kindness Week was awesome! It was truly touching to see the students so focused on kind words and deeds all week long. I loved watching them put others' needs before their own. We played a compliment game on Monday and the students begged to play it everyday! Kindness and positivity are truly contagious - I hope this good energy stays with us and carries us through the end of the school year. If you didn't get a chance, ask your child about the bucket filling activity that we did and see if they will share their kind notes with you :)
Poetry Cafe- We started writing poetry during Kindness Week and are continuing our study of poetry this week and next. The students are blowing me away with their thoughtful and creative poems. Please join us for a celebration of their writing next Wednesday at 1:45 in the 4th grade classroom. If anyone wants to volunteer to bring in cookies and refreshments, that would be very appreciated! (Use the sign up above)
Book Clubs - The students will be doing "book clubs" for the next 6 weeks. Each student is assigned a group and a novel which they will read together and practice and review many of the comprehension skills and strategies that we've learned this year. Students will be required to do some of the reading and activities in school and some at home. (The more they cooperate and work hard in class, the less they have to do at home). They will also have some assigned reading to do over Spring Break. This ensures that we will finish the books on time. Ask your child which novel they will be reading!
Family Life is a part of the religion curriculum in 4th grade. A copy of the curriculum, the parent connection packet and a permission slip will be going home today. Please take some time to look over the curriculum to make sure that you are comfortable with everything being taught. All of these items (including the parent packet) need to be returned after Easter break on April 28th.
Holy Thursday Retreat - it is a tradition at Saint James to spend the Thursday before Easter Break preparing for Easter with a religious retreat. All day the students will participate in faith-based activities and prayer. We end the day with praying the Stations of the Cross down at the church with the 8th grade leaders.
